This is a special page just for our international visitors! Here you can find out which films and documentaries in our cinema programme are in different languages or shown with English subtitles. And also which multilingual activities are organized at our library.

➤ Be sure to always double-check if the screening you want to attend is indeed in English or has English subtitles to avoid disappointment!

Tulipani | International Movie Night

Multiple times a year we organize an International Movie Night in cooperation with ESN Groningen. The first is on Monday 25 September. We will be screening the Dutch/Italian Tulipani, the romantic and thrilling opening film of the Dutch Film Festival of 2017. This movie will be screened with English subtitles.

Royal Opera House Live

Next cinema season twelve Royal Opera House productions are relayed live to more than 1,500 cinemas in over 35 countries. Also in our cinema at Hereplein 73, Groningen! The screenings include both Royal Opera and Royal Ballet productions. Check our website for the Royal Opera House Live programme.


If you're in range of our free Wi-Fi network, you can download a wide variety of international newspapers and magazines through the PressReader app, free of charge, and then read them wherever you choose.

Ex-rental sale

Every first Thursday of the month the public library sells some of its ex-rental books (incl. English novels), dvd's and games! Free entrance at the public library: Oude Boteringestraat 18, Groningen (ground floor).

Study spots and spaces

Our location at the Oude Boteringestraat has a variety of spaces useful for studying and doing research. There are a good number of study places, a free Wi-Fi network, tons of books and magazines to read and of course the Leescafé Belcampo coffeeshop for a quick coffee or a slow lunch.

At the Groninger Forum Acedemy we offer Dutch language courses for beginner and advanced levels. For those who already mastered the Dutch language, there are other courses to join, of course.
